Southern Africa 1996

For this 6 week adventure to Southern Africa I went on 3 safari trips. Firstly, a 15 day Namibia trip with Karibu Adventures, then a 10 day Zimbabwe trip with Drifters and finally an 18 day South Africa trip, again with Drifters.

Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

Elephants passing through our campsite at the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia. I dashed off to take photos of the elephants as they crossed the river into our campsite and our guide Vanessa was very concerned that I was going to be surrounded by them. We ended up clapping and shooing and trying to persuade them to move away from our camp as they ate leaves from the trees.

Zimbabwe

View of Victoria Falls from an ultralight aircraft. A very scary flight. The “experienced” pilot had a full 12 months flying under his belt.
White water rafting on the Zambezi River – amazing fun. Some of us went overboard but everyone survived.
I had to do the bungee jump from the Victoria Falls bridge over the Zambezi River with a huge hangover, thanks to drinking lots of beers after the white water rafting the previous day. An action-packed time at Victoria Falls!!

South Africa

This is a professional stunt photographer. Please kiddies, do not attempt to do this yourself. I jumped over the fence to take this photo shoot but I was only sitting about half way along the rock ledge when our guide “Erol” came by and I thought oh no… I am in big trouble here. However, he didn’t get upset with me, he actually told me to go out further and sit on the very end of the rock ledge.

Hiking in the Drakensberg National Park, located in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.
